Billiards Risk Management

Since the game of billiards is typically a very safe sport in which to participate, many leagues and organizers think there is no need to carry a billiards insurance policy. However, lawsuits can and have been brought when injuries or accidents occur. Consider the following causes of incidents in a billiards game.

  1. Negligence: A damaged table, splintered cue, or even liquid on the floor can all contribute to an injury to participant or spectator. Additionally, not having appropriate and safe places to store unused equipment (such as the rack or the bridge) can lead to trips and falls.Billiards Insurance
  2. Player-to-Player Interaction: Frustration, competitiveness, and defensive posturing can all lead to exchanges that can cause injury to one or both participants. If adequate supervision or security is not present to resolve situations that come up, the organizer of the league could be held responsible for damages.
  3. Improper Training: Without proper training on how to shoot with a bridge, chalking a cue, and how (or if) to perform jump shots, a billiards player could accidentally send a ball flying off the table, potentially injuring someone or damaging property.
  4. Liquor Liability: If alcohol is served, billiards organizers may have a liquor liability exposure from serving a patron who is either underage or obviously intoxicated. Such a patron may be involved in a fight or auto accident resulting in bodily injury to a third party or him/herself. A special Liquor Legal Liability policy is needed to cover this exposure.

Billiards insurance can protect the league owner or organizer from the financial risk associated with lawsuits that can come up from these types of incidents.
